Jan Vormann was born 1983 in Bamberg, Germany. He fills gaps, holes and clefts in walls, streets, public buildings and private houses with plastic bricks. For his Berlin series of «Dispatchwork» he selected buildings still damaged from World War II. «The LEGO brick has a nostalgic value amongst different generations worldwide but at the same time it is very up to date. The combination of stone bricks and plastic bricks creates all kinds of different contrasts that, in my eyes, illuminate relationships between aesthetics and functionality. Undoubtedly, the project bears depth in the way it deals with our perception of reality.» Between 2007-2010, Jan Vormann constructed his brick installations in Bocchignano, Italy; Tel Aviv, Israel; Berlin, Germany; Amsterdam, Netherlands;Belgrade, Serbia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Zürich, Switzerland; Quito, Ecuador.
