5 Questions to Mr. McGINNIS by Vendome Luxury LIVE.

Mr McGinnis received the agency XXB in his apt /studio to answer 5 questions.

1 - Are you eager to show something new in the next edition of the Vendome Luxury LIVE?
I'm confident about what I'm doing at the Hotel Le Meurice, even though I plan to improvise a creation that is specific to the site, so I don’t know yet exactly what it will look like. This is the first time I am doing an installation in a luxury hotel. It’s an interesting and fertile opportunity. I’m not looking to shock anyone, but I do want to create a contrast between what I do and its site.

2 - Do you have a special concept?
I have a basic idea. This beginning point will guide my thoughts, but I’m looking to create something that I haven’t before. I will find what I want to do by doing it. A work must be imperfect to be alive. Mistakes are good. Having it all thought out before hand doesn’t allow to discover something new and even more exciting than what I have already done.

3 - Do you prefer colored materials?
I love color, I love vibrant colors (especially green, my favorite).

4 – Do you always use string too?
Usually, yes. In this exhibition I’m combining them with clothes. String is something that we all have at home, it fascinates me, a basic element, simple and fragile, but depending on how it is used, it can be transformed. It can become architecture or 3D drawing etc. I usually only use string or cord, but am open to other materials. In this project I am interested in using garments in the same way, as material, and to see how I can transform them with how I install them.

5 - Does light play a special role? And why is your nickname Spider-man?
Without light anything visual is dead. My work needs light, but my work is no light show, and the Spider-man ? I see where the idea comes from, but I don’t like labels. You know, spiders do not produce webs in vibrant colors (laughs).
