LEGO ACCESSORIES: Karl Donoghue
Yorkshire born designer, Karl Donoghue moved to London in 1991 to study fashion at Ravensbourne College of Design. Soon after graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree, and with the success of his graduation collection, a shearling accessory range was launched under his own label ‘Karl Donoghue’ in 1995.
The continued support and interest from many overseas customers resulted in the label being short-listed for the ‘British Apparel Export Award’ for a second time. The 2001 award for womenswear was presented to Karl Donoghue by HRH the Princess Royal in May 2002.
Karl is inspired by the beauty of natural skins and their unique intrinsic qualities. Throughout the design process he works very closely with a number of tanneries to develop new ideas and processes for each collection. Working in London has a huge influence on the styling and detailing. A pocket, a seam, a silhouette can all be inspired by the people of London or wherever Karl travels.
